Is chair yoga just for seniors?

Chair yoga is a beneficial form of yoga for any fitness level, from active seniors to those recovering from an injury. Chair yoga is an ideal exercise for those suffering from conditions, such as chronic pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, osteoporosis, and multiple sclerosis. It may also benefit people over a certain age who have trouble moving through the up and down motions of traditional yoga. So people who have had knee or hip replacement will find a good home for their ongoing fitness at this new Ishpeming Business.

We do both seated and standing poses with the assist of the chair and other tools/props. We concentrate on strength, balance and increasing circulation. And, YES! We do weight bearing exercises.

Kim’s experience working with seniors, adult and children with disabilities and as a massage therapist brings a certain playful and knowledgeable base to the challenges of aging with grace. She has offered members of the NCLL chair yoga, Teal Lake Assisted Living, and has also taught at the Marquette Senior Center as a volunteer.

Watch for a new series of classes coming in February 2022.
